Part two of Kavita and Sudeep's coast-to-coast Indian wedding was held in California and it was spectacular!!  The first part, the wedding, was held in South Beach, Miami.  The second half included a two-night celebration.  On the first night they held a welcome dinner and mehndi party at Kavita's parent's home.  The second night was the reception and it took place at the gorgeous Hyatt Huntington Beach.  Kavita and Sudeep looked amazing, the ballroom decor was stunning, the weather was perfect and the entertainment for the evening was second-to-none!  Kavita loves to dance and is extremely accomplished, so it would stand to reason the theme for the evening was dance.  There were tango and salsa performances and the highlight of the evening were the electric performances by world-renowned dance group, Karmagraphy.  Kavita was invited to be a guest dancer with the group and she was simply flawless!!  Smita Mohindra of Ethnic Essence did a stellar job coordinating the reception!

Kavita and Sudeep, thank you for taking us along on your coast-to-coast wedding journey.  You both made us feel so welcomed as did your families and friends!  We had such a great time getting to know you all and wish you all the happiness in your future together!!

Where do we start!  This wedding was spectacular and we adore the bride and groom!  Anna and Andrew were married at the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco, California on January 26th, 2013.  There theme was "Under the Sea" and they carried it off in grand style.  The reception ballroom gave the feeling you were swimming in the sea as the entire room was bathed in cool-blue lighting.  And then there was the cake ... how can you not like the cake, complete with two adorable "Nemo" type bride and groom clown fish kissing as the cake topper, complete with veil and top hat - LOVE!!

This was a Russian wedding to celebrate Anna's heritage.  A lot of fun for sure!  As Anna put it, "Russian weddings are A LOT OF DANCING AND A LOT OF DRINKING!!!"  She was right about that, and there was also a lot of food and A LOT of caviar :-)!!  We think the pictures do the day justice and are going to let them speak for the day's events.  There are two parts to this posting so be sure to check out both to see the full story.  Thank you Anna and Andrew for having us as your wedding photographers!  This was a truly magical day and we were so pleased to be a part of it!  Love you guys and enjoy the sneak peak!  xoxo

We also need to make special mention of the incredible job that Inna and Anna of Any Occasion did coordinating this grand wedding event and bringing it all together for Anna and Andrew!

We just returned from a short trip to Yosemite National Park.  We were so excited to visit during winter but the week we headed out it looked very bad on the "winter" front.  Temperatures had been warm and no new snow had fallen.  We were certain there would be no winter to be found, so you can imagine our surprise when we entered the park to see a fresh dusting of snow that had fallen the night before.  It wasn't a lot but we were thrilled to see Yosemite wearing a thin coat of white.  It was magical!  Following are a few of our favorite shots we took over the two days we were there.

This was a beautiful wedding we photographed this past summer and we just couldn't let it pass without posting it!  Melanie and Kyle were married aboard a yacht named Athena on a sunset cruise of Newport Bay in Newport Beach, California.  We had actually just flown in on the redeye from a wedding in Kauai, Hawaii early that morning.  Luckily, with it being a sunset wedding, we were able to catch a little shut eye before the big event.  It was simply stunning and the sunset didn't disappoint.  Throughout the rest of the evening, Melanie and Kyle's guests were treated to a cruise around the bay while enjoying dinner and dancing ... simply magical!

How beautiful!! It's been so long since I've looked at your blog! Keep up the great work!

The weekend after Leah and Josh's wedding, we headed back to San Francisco , new gear in hand :-), to photograph their "day-after" shoot.  We moved our way throughout downtown San Francisco, then into the nearby Muir Woods, and finally back into the city again.  It was a lovely day overall, however it was windy and it was quite shocking to us Phoenicians how cold it can get in San Francisco in June, especially as the light of day faded :-).  Thank you both so much for a wonderful day, we had such a great time exploring!

Leah and Josh were married May 26th, 2012 in downtown San Francisco, California!  Their ceremony was held at Fay Park and their reception took place at the San Francisco Art Institute.  It was a lovely day and the weather could not have been any better, sunny and warm ... by San Francisco standards :-).

Just before this wedding (one hour to be exact) the unexpected happened and Kevin and I had one of the worst experiences of our lives.  All, and I mean ALL, our photography equipment was stolen.  It was horrible but I don't want to focus on that in this posting (read more in our next posting specifically written for that.)  Instead, we want to focus on how this wonderful couple and their amazing families and friends helped to pull us through such a gut-wrenching experience.  All it took was being in the presence of their warm personalities and witnessing the love and deep caring they all so clearly have for one another.  This wedding was full of much laughter and tears and it warmed our hearts and restored our spirits and most importantly renewed our faith in something we weren't sure if we still had after such a violation ... our faith in humanity and the good that most of us harbor as human beings.  Thank you all for that.  It was an honor to be a part of your wedding day!

We also want to extend a very special thank you to Leah and Josh's Wedding Coordinator, Vera Devera and her husband of Va de Vie Events.  Without their help we would not have been able to move on and photograph this wedding.  They graciously drove us all the way across the city, on a busy holiday weekend no less, so we could purchase new equipment.  Thank you both so much ... you really did save the day!!

Kendell and Chris were married at the spectacular Mormon Temple in San Diego, California on May 17th, 2012.  Many of their lose family and friends traveled from all across the United States to share in the couple's wedding day.  Just after Kendell and Chris emerged from the Temple a bank of low clouds rolled in, but it didn't put a damper on the day.  In fact, the photos actually benefited from the look, as Kendell wanted a vintage theme for her wedding and the weather added a nostalgic feel, especially to the photos taken on the cliffs above the ocean.  Two days later the couple held a reception in their hometown of Chandler, Arizona, which will be posted in Part 2 of their wedding.  Thank you both for having us as your wedding photographers!  We had such an great time!

We also have to mention what an amazing job Jessica Gelder of Sweet Soiree did with coordinating and planning this event!

5-21-11 Trash The Dress Photography TCTTD00.jpg

The day after Theresa and Chris' wedding, we headed into Napa Valley for their trash the dress shoot to take advantage of the beautiful vineyards and stately oak trees.  We got some beautiful images and had a great time producing them ... gotta love it when the bride and groom aren't afraid to climb trees :-)!  Thank you both again for having us as your wedding photographers and for the wonderful experience!

Love-Love the Black & White effect on the trees. Oh...Love it! :)

When Theresa and Chris originally contacted us well over a year ago about the possibility of photographing their wedding, they were uncertain where to have it ... Scottsdale or Napa.  Hummm, let's see, Scottsdale or Napa?? ... hard to say ... perhaps Napa??!!  Napa very quickly won out and they asked if we would travel ... travel to Napa ... no way :-)!  Of course we were right on it and super excited!  We would have to wait fourteen long months.  In the meantime we photographed the couple's engagement shoot and instantly fell in love with them, making us even more excited for the big day!

Time passed quickly as it always does these days and before we knew it, May 20th, 2011 was here and we were in Napa Valley, California.  The wedding was held on a perfect California day at V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena.  This is a long post because everything was just so stunning and there were so many beautiful details and everywhere we looked the light was simply amazing - it just seemed impossible to cut too many things out.  Thank you both for having us as your wedding photographers and treating us so well!!  You were amazing to work with and we very much enjoyed getting to know you!  We hope your move to Southern California has gone well and we know you are loving it there!  Best wishes always!

Here it is ... the mother of all wedding days, 10-10-10!!  Melissa and Joseph chose this as their date (as did many other: we probably had upwards of at least 40 inquiries for that date alone) and we felt blessed to be a part of it.  It took place on Coronado Island in San Diego, California on a beautiful, mild, sunny day ... simply stunning!

As this date fell on a Sunday, Melissa thought it would be cool to have a daytime wedding and set it up as a Sunday brunch complete with various cooking stations ... yum!  I do have to say, it was a little difficult for us as we had a 9 hour wedding that Saturday in Phoenix that didn't end until after midnight.  We went stright from the wedding, drove overnight and checked into a hotel for one hour to rest before heading to meet the bride at 8:30AM to start all over again.  It was well worth a little fatigue though :-).  At the end of the day, we headed over to the beach to get some amazing shots in near perfect light!  Thank you both for having us!

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum (a little bit of humor for any theater buffs out there) ...

You see, this wedding story began with Kristel and Logan, who don't reside in CA, making a list of the top places they would like to have a destination wedding.  Ultimately, the Giant Sequoias of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range in CA won out.  Next step - use the internet (a wonderful tool by the way) for all your planning needs.  After nailing down the venue Kristel began her search for a photographer.  She typed in something along the lines of "Wedding Photographers Sierra Nevada" and presto, there we were, Sierra Blanco Photography.  Kristel then emailed us saying that she visited our site, went through the entire thing, fell in love with us, and then realized we were based in AZ, not CA.  She asked if we would travel and with a hearty "HECK YEAH we'll travel" we were soon on our way to photograph a wedding amongst the Giant Sequoias :-)!!

This wedding was held on June 10th and was right up our alley with all the magnificent scenery and dramatic weather!  We were also happy with all the photojournalistic images we got out of this one.  It also rates as our longest one-day event ever ... 15 hours!  Factor all that into the equation and you get a rather long posting.  In fact it was hard narrow it down to what we did.  The whole day and all the details were just so amazing!

The day began with Kristel and Logan enjoying an early morning picnic at Shaver Lake.  Kristel and her friend (who came all the way from Alaska to participate in her good friend's day) then headed down to Fresno to have her hair done.

Side note: I rode in the back seat of the convertible so I could get photos on the winding mountain roads that led down to the city.  After getting what I needed I laid down in a fetal position and did not move.  Once we arrived, Kristel aked me if I had a nice nap to which I exclaimed, "no ... I didn't take a nap, I wanted to die."  I had gotten so car sick that if I had moved or spoken at all during the remainder of the trip, well it would not have been a pretty scene, let's just put it that way.  I got the photos though.  That's dedication :-)!

Meanwhile Logan stayed behind to help get the Elliott House B&B, their reception venue, ready for that evening.  At this point it was slightly overcast but the weather was holding.  After their first meeting, which they did before the ceremony in order to do couple formals, we headed away from the town and into stunning, nearly untouched wilderness.  This is where the weather became it's most dramatic!  Under warm, sunny skies, we stood on a granite outcropping and looked into the distance to witness an advancing wall of seething black clouds.  As the wind picked up, whipping Kristel's cathedral length veil around, we knew we weren't gonna get much more drama than this!!  Kristel and Logan handled the whole thing like pro models and the outcome was stunning!

By the time we made it up to McKinley Grove in the Sierra National Forest for the ceremony, the weather had turned cold under a light mist of rain.  Fortunately, spirits were not dampened and the ceremony went on as planned, under the sheltering canopy of three stately Giant Sequoia trees.  After the ceremony we headed to one last shooting location before the reception.  Kristel had hoped to get some photos at a waterfall and in our scouting the day before we had found the perfect one.  With the rain now intensifying and the temperature yet falling, we all dealt with the discomfort in the name of once-in-a-lifetime photo opps.

It was still very cold at the reception site, but at least the rain hadn't made it that far.  We have to throw in two points ... Kristel's dress and accessories were beautiful and their wedding cake was jaw-dropping!!  Kristel and Logan we cannot express enough how blessed we feel to have been chosen as your wedding photographers.  We loved you both, along with your family and friends and could not have enjoyed the day more.  Thanks for trusting in all our ideas and photo locations and we hope you love these images as much as we do!!

Final side note:  Kristel is quite the photographer herself, so the photography was very important to her.  This makes us feel especially grateful that she chose us and we sincerely hope we exceeded her expectations :-)!

Kristel LOVES detail shots and even helped to set some of these up :-)!

A couple of weeks ago we headed out to the Sierra Nevada range of California where we had a destination wedding to photograph.  Kevin used to live in these mountains and has a real passion for them ... especially Yosemite National Park, so this was a real treat for him to go back home, if even for a very short time.

I personally have never been to this part of the world so I was like a kid in a candy store!  Every turn revealed something new and wonderful.  We started our trip near Sequoia National Park where the wedding was to be held.  We spent the first day scouting the area and grabbing some nice nature shots along the way.  The day after the wedding we headed north to Yosemite National Park.  We were on a tight timeline as this was already Thursday and we had to be in the White Mountains of Arizona for another wedding by Saturday.  Hence, we weren't there during the best time of the day, but it was specatcular none-the-less!!  As we passed through, we stopped frequently to take travel shots (I used to do a lot of trvel photography and really enjoy it), landscape shots (duh...), and of course those must have, silly tourist shots.  We stopped for lunch at the famed Ahwahnee Hotel and then headed on through the park over the Tioga Pass to the eastern side of the Sierras. A big highlight along the way was sighting a black bear in a field feeding ... a really awesome sight!!!

We made our way to Mono Lake, a world-famous lake amongst landscape photographers, for sunset.  I have always wanted to take landscapes of Mono Lake and was quite happy with what we got given the tight time frame.  We had dinner in Mammoth Lakes (Kevin lived there and it is one of his favorite places) and stayed in Bishop.  Before heading home the next day we stopped in at Mountian Light Gallery which was founded by the late Galen Rowell.  He was an amazingly talented photographer.  I once attended one of his seminars when I was in college in Florida and he was nothing short of inspirational.  It was a treat to walk though his gallery!

An impressive view of Yosemite Valley.

Mono Lake and it's famous tufa towers.
6-9-09SierraNevada14.jpg
Most people visit Mono Lake to photograph it's exotic tufa formations.  Me, I had to photograph the millions of Alkali Flies that cover the lake's shores ... definitely got some wierd looks as I lay flat on the muddy banks :-).  These were actually really hard to get and after many frames these emerged as a couple of my favorites. A side note: These flies are very polite ... they do not like touching humans, making my job much easier :-).

I didn't believe Kevin when he told me that this plant's official name is "Snow Plant"... then I saw it on an identification sign in Yosemite :-).  Guess I should put more faith in him :-).

Wonderful pictures and beautiful people! I remember that tufa formation. And the flies. The reflections in Tioga lake, and the view from the Ahwahnee dining room. Further, I forgot my bikini in a tree at the Bishop campground, and we found no ice cream on the top of the upper Yosemite fall. Fortunately, we found sequoias as big as evrything else in USA.
Memories....;)
Looking forward to see more picures from the area!!

I came here looking for large pictures of lava flowing into the sea, but I stuck around to look at all the non-Hawaii photos as well.

Very nice. I'll my s.o. stop by here to take a look at all the places on the Mainland where I'd like to take her later.
