Kavita and Sudeep celebrated the first part of their two-part coast-to-coast Indian wedding in South Beach, Miami, Florida.  This was a destination wedding for everyone involved and the weekend was designed for for fun-in-the-sun!

Friday evening they held a Mehndi Party and Saturday morning the held a Haldi Ceremony, all at a beautiful South Beach estate called the Orchid House.  The ceremony and reception were held Saturday afternoon and evening.  We started with a few photos at the Orchid House and then moved over to the ceremony venue at a high-rise on the beach known as the Shore Club.  Everything took place at the Penthouse of the Shore Club and it was almost overwhelming to take in.  The evening's events took place out on the patios of the penthouse and the views were out of this world spectacular.  In every direction was either beach and ocean views or stunning city views of Miami's incredible skyline.  To top it off the entire penthouse balcony was lit up in vivid shades of every color of the rainbow!  Oh, and did we mention the cake ... WOW, what an awesome cake!!

Kavita and Sudeep decided against a traditional Indian ceremony, opting instead to make it their own and incorporate many customs from various cultures throughout the world, including those of Indian culture.  It was truly a stunning event and one I'm sure their guests won't soon forget.

They concluded their Miami wedding event with a Sunday brunch at the Surfcomber.  Afetr brunch everyone walked over to the beach for a day of final day of relaxation and fun on one of the world's most famous beaches.  South Beach was a perfect destination for this wonderful couple.  Two weeks later they held a grand reception in Huntington Beach, California which you can see HERE!

We have to mention Jackie Bressler and Taylor Thomas of Jackie Bressler Events, for doing an outstanding job coordinating this entire event and pulling all the details together for Kavita and Sudeep!  They did a beautiful job!!

Kavita and Sudeep decided to have a coast-to-coast event to celebrate their marriage.  It started at the beginning of April in posh South Beach, Miami.  The couple wanted a location with a tropical feel that would provide their guests with a weekend full of fun and relaxation that wasn't too far off the beaten path.  South Beach was the perfect solution!

The three-day event in Miami began at a private estate nestled deep in the heart of South Beach's main strip, called the Orchid House.  Though it is in the thick of the action, you would never know it once inside the property grounds.  It was surprising how quite and tranquil the setting was ... and beautiful.  Friday evening was reserved for the Mehndi Party which featured henna artists, dinner, and several wonderful dance programs.  Kavita is a very accomplished dancer and gave an outstanding performance to wrap up the night's festivities.  The following Saturday morning, the couple took part in a festive Haldi Ceremony where a mixture containing turmeric is playfully applied to the skin by various family members for beautification purposes.  Gifts are also exchanged between family members.  The wedding ceremony and brunch the following Sunday is covered in our next posting.

We can't say enough wonderful things about this couple!  We just love Allyson and Eric and to think, we almost didn't get this booking.  Allyson found us on the WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) under Florida listings.  We are obviously listed under Arizona, but also list ourselves under Florida because we work there frequently.  When Allyson contacted us and found out we were based in Arizona, she almost didn't email back.  Ultimately we continued talking and in the end it was meant to be and we are so glad for that!

Allyson and Eric were married January 18, 2014 at the Ancient Spanish Monastery in Miami, Florida.  This was a destination wedding for the couple and it couldn't have been a more beautiful setting.  So many things about this wedding were noteworthy, but the two things that really stood out to us were their obvious love for one another and their love for Eric's son, E.J.  During the ceremony E.J. was invited up and they all joined hands to symbolize becoming a family.  One other moment worthy of mention was the couple's "first look" ... epic!  The week of the wedding they were still wavering on their decision to see one another before the ceremony.  After some back and forth, and some coaxing from us, they finally decided to do it.  We always strive to make these meetings special, but we felt even more pressure to make this one special.  We just knew how much the moment meant to them and wanted it exceed all their expectations.  This seriously had to be the most amazing "first look" we have ever witnessed.  Allyson and Eric really took their time and basked in the moment and it was nothing short of magical.

Allyson and Eric, we are soooooo happy you two chose us as your wedding photographers!!  You were both so welcoming and inviting as were your family and friends.  We loved having the chance to get to know you both better.  Enjoy the sneak peak :-)!!  xoxo ~ Tina and Kevin

Funny thing about how we first came to know this couple.  Maya and Spencer were on vacation from South Florida when they happened upon us conducting a trash the dress shoot with past clients, Kendra and Kyle, at Red Rock Crossing in Sedona.  They were, as most are who have never seen one of these sessions before, very curious to what we were doing photographing this couple in their wedding attire in red, muddy water.  We quickly explained that this was a session for couples to do after their wedding day to get images that are way outside the box ... most figuring they will never do anything with their dress again anyhow, so they may as well have some fun with it!

We saw a slight spark in Maya's eye at that moment as she exclaimed, "How true ... my wedding dress has been hanging in our closet, doing nothing, for almost ten years now!"  With that, she asked who we were and her and Spencer headed on their way.  We figured we would never see them again.

About a week later we received an email from Maya.  With much enthusiasm she explained that she had been to our website and loved our trash the dress photos.  She asked if we would be willing to fly to Miami the following year to photograph a trash the dress shoot for her and Spencer for their ten year anniversary.  With that we booked the date and headed off to South Florida this past July!

We had an amazing time getting to know Maya and Spencer, and their two beautiful daughters, Adelyn and Emma, as we spent the entire day cruising to various spots from Hollywood Beach near Ft. Lauderdale; to the amazing art of the Wynwood Walls in Miami; to Bill Baggs State Park in Key Biscayne.  Maya wore her original wedding dress, though she did some alterations to make it a bit more modern and both she and Spencer were full of energy and excitement all day long.  What a great idea for a ten year anniversary!  Happy 10 years and here's to a lifetime more!  Thank you both so much for having us.  We very much enjoyed getting to know you and your family and we just love you guys to death :-)!!

12-23-10 Nature Photography Florida 00.jpg

This past December, the week before Christmas, we traveled to central Florida to visit our friends, Aubrey and Phillip, and to have a short vacation.  It was so nice visiting and simply relaxing.  One way we like to relax is to head into nature to watch and photograph the local wildlife.  On this particular trip it was extremely cold, especially by Florida standards.  With average lows that week in the lower twenties and high teens, we had a rare chance to witness one of nature's great spectacles.  When temperatures dip really low, Manatees head into the warm waters of the local springs - in this case, Blue Springs State Park -  for survival.  We have seen our share of these gentle giants over the years, but never in these numbers.  There were literally hundreds of them ... the sight was staggering!  We also got to photograph many of our favorite birds.  It was a great trip ... I miss Florida :-)!

Last December we traveled to Florida to photograph my wonderful friend, Aubrey, for her maternity session.  Though it has been a while since the shoot, we wanted to post some photos from the shoot.  We headed to St. Augustine, Florida, to do the shoot.  As I mentioned already, it was December, and though Florida is not known for its cold weather at any time of the year, it was shockingly cold this particular week.  Night time lows hovered close to the teens and the days weren't much warmer.  On top of that, it had rained quite a bit, so it was damp, thus making the temps feel even worse.  Despite that, Aubrey and her husband Phillip endured brutal conditions in very little clothing for the sake of "good" photography :-)!  They now have a beautiful daughter named Scarlett.  I love you both and can't wait to meet the newest member of the Jarvis / Reel family!!

Brittany is little sister to my close friend, Aubrey, and part of the Jarvis Family, all of whom I have become so close with over the past many years.  I have been fortunate to document all the Jarvis sister's weddings to date and now I am documenting their families, as I can when I get back to Florida, as they grow.  Though this shoot was a while back, I wanted to post some photos from Brittany's maternity shoot - of course her husband, Stephen, was in tow :-).  They now have a beautiful baby girl named Avenue!  Love you Bee and Stephen!!

5-18-10 Nature Photography Florida Bird Rookery 00.jpg

Every spring there is a wildlife spectacle in Florida that nature photographers and birders alike come to witness from all over the world.  It is the annual nesting rookery at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm and for anyone who loves birds, it is a real treat in every way.  Here, on one short boardwalk constructed over a swamp you can view Roseate Spoonbills, Tricolored Herons, Wood Storks, Snowy, Cattle and Great Egrets and many more species playing out every stage of the nesting process and May is prime time for the chicks to make their debut into the world.  It is a wonderous sight and I always love having a chance to watch them during this early stage of life :-)!

While we were in Florida this past May for Liane and Andy's wedding we took time to visit some of my favorite wildlife hotspots and get back to nature.  It was spring and all the birds and reptiles were out either looking for mates, laying eggs or raising their young.  I just love this time of year in Florida for wildlife photography :-).

5-16-10 Day After Wedding Photography LADA00.jpg

Liane and Andy decided to have a day-after shoot - imagine this - the day after the wedding :-).  They had limited time on the wedding day to do formals since they opted not to see one another before the ceremony and just wanted to take a little more time to get some great shots on the stunning beach where they were married.

Liane and Andy are two of our favorite clients.  We had an instant connection from the first time we met them for their engagement shoot and were so honored to follow them to Florida for their beautiful beachside wedding!

Their wedding took place this past May in Clearwater Beach, Florida at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort.  The water was clear (true to it's name) and blue, the sand was a blinding snow white, and the temperatures were balmy ... so, all in all, a perfect central Florida day :-)!

Just before Christmas, I visited one of my best friends in Florida for a little down time and to photograph her maternity session ... this is her first pregnancy!  I wanted to post a sneak peak photo for her, as she is due to deliver her beautiful baby girl tomorrow, January 11th.

Aubrey, I love you and will be thinking about you all day and praying you have a smooth delivery.  You are just as beautiful pregnant as you always have been and no one could replace you in front of my lens ... or in any other way :-)!  Can't wait to meet Scarlet!!

The day after the wedding, we met up with Lisa and James for their trash-the-dress shoot.  This shoot was totally off the hook.  We had such a blast!!

We started at Lisa's parent's farm, which is full of everything imaginable to use as a prop or backdrop for this kind of shoot.  We had a lot of fun rummaging through the garage, and with a little help from Lisa's father, we got some crazy shots :-)!  The farm equipment was fun too as was the participation of many adorable dogs, including Quizas.  Lisa's brother, a photography buff himself,  took us to the far reaches of the farm where they grow all sorts of palm trees and we got some beautiful shots in the deep green forests ... not to mention a few mosquito bites :-).  The family definitely participated in this event and had fun doing it!  We hope they love the photos!!

We finished up the shoot at the beach and WOW, no holding back.  When we told them to jump in the water, they jumped.  When the waves battered them, they just got back in them again for another take.  They were amazing!!  I have to say though, I got just as soaked as they did almost ... drenched up to my neck.  The water was warm though, kind of like bath water :-).  Lisa opted not to keep the crinoline and tossed it in the trash as we left the beach ... made for a cute departing shot!!  Thanks so much you two, this was soooooo much fun!!

Lisa:

Tine & Kevin!

These photos are HOOOT!!! And they look They came out better than I would've thought! I can't wait to see all of them :)

~Lisa

(12.08.09 @ 01:16 PM)

Lisa and James were married at the Breakers West in West Palm Beach, Florida in October.  For fear of writing a novel, I am going to try to keep this somewhat short and sweet ... the posting is extra long and the photos speak for themselves!

From the first contact with Lisa, we instantly hit it off and we eagarly awaited her and Jame's wedding!  The couple lives in Chicago but have family in Florida, which is why they chose West Palm as their wedding destination.  We met the day before the wedding and were amused at some family member's relief that we "showed up" :-).  In all seriousness, both families wecomed us with open arms, and Lisa's family warmly opened up their home to us both on the day of the wedding and for the trash-the-dress shoot the following day.  Everyone was so wonderful to be around.

There were many highlights to the wedding day, not the least of which was a traditional Chinese Lion Dance performed immediately after the ceremony as a surprise from Lisa and James to their guests!  It was spectacular to watch and total eye candy for any photographer with all the stunning costumes and colors!  They also had hookahs and a bubble machine at the reception ... what fun.  I LOVE receptions with this much energy, even if I do get smaked around a bit on the dancefloor :-).

The next postng will have highlights from their trash-the-dress shoot and you don't want to miss it!  Thank you Lisa and James ... we had an unbelievable time!!

The stone in the necklace is called Tanzanite.  It is very hard to come by these days, especially one of such color and clarity, and  Lisa's mom gave it to her to wear on her wedding day.  It was stunning and it is my favorite stone!!!

Tina,

I LOOOOOVE the photos! I There's so many fantastic shots, I can't pick a favorite. I love the cake shots, way more fun than the standard shots you see all the time. The character in the heart is "double happiness" the "symbol" for a wedding. You guys did fantastic work again! I'm so excited!

The day before we left Florida, I took Kevin to one of my favorite places ... the St. Augustine Alligator Farm.  Not only does it have one of the most impressive displays of alligator and crocodile species in the world, it also has one of the best natural bird rookeries (a communal nesting site) in all of Florida.  Afterwards, we headed back down the coast stopping one last time along the way to enjoy the sounds of the ocean ... I really do miss Florida!!

We decided to play tourists and pose with a young gator ... really, I just wanted to hold one - it was so cool :-).

I love to play tourist when I go on trips. Even if it's only for 1/2 a day. I'm totally jealous of the alligator farm. Hope you're having fun in FL.

We have hit the busy season and I am falling very far behind on my blogging, so for those couples waiting, I promise I will get your shoots up as soon as possible :-).

While we were in Florida, Brittany and Stephen had one last shoot - a spectacular Trash-the Dress shoot.  Again, we can't stress enough how much fun these shoots can be ... they are becoming increasingly popular and are highly recommended!!!

Bee and Stephen started the shoot in Downtown Orlando in the Church Street Station district ... I personally love the ice cream shots :-).  From there we headed out to Blue Springs State Park where they got down and dirty - and just a little water-logged.

Thank you both so much!!  It was such a blast and we just love you guys!  Hope you love them as much as we do :-)!!

Tina, the pictures look fantastic! ~Lisa

(04.21.09 @ 02:59 PM)

I first met Brittany when she was eight years old.  I went to meet my friend Aubrey at her house for a photo shoot and there she was ... the only blonde in the family.  I remember thinking how pretty she was going to be when she grew up.  I couldn't have been closer to the mark in that prediction.  Today she is a beautiful young woman and I never dreamed at the time that I would one day be photographing her wedding.  Funny how life works sometimes :-).

Brittany and Stephen are a wonderful couple and I was so glad to be a part of their very special day.  I have felt blessed to be able to cover each sister's wedding (Ashley and Aubrey before this) and Bee's was no exception.  Brittany comes from a large family - 4 sisters and 3 brothers total - and I just love all of them, including their wonderful parents.  Stephen's family was just as wonderful to get to know, very warm and gracious.

Side note: As you view the photos you will think your eyes are playing tricks on you, and in a way they are.  For the record, that is not former President George W. Bush, but he sure is a darn good look-alike!!  In fact Stephen's father, John Morgan, is a bit of a celebrity himself having taken third place in ABC TV's celebrity reality show, "The Next Best Thing."  It really was mind-boggling how much he looked like him.

Brittany and Stephen, it was a beautiful wedding and you two make the cuttest couple.  Thank you for your hospitality and for entrusting us as your wedding photographers.  Stephen is a videographer and Brittany has always grown up around the camera so photos were extremely important to both of them.  It meant a lot that they trusted us to document their special day.  Hope you love them and we wish you the very best in life!!  Hope you have a chance to stop by and visit while you are out this way :-)!

I thank God for you and your friendship to the family. Stephen and I are so lucky to have a little bit of Sierra Blanco in our lives. Thank you!

It has become a bit of a tradition among the Jarvis sisters to have their rehearsal and reception as one event the day before the wedding and far be it for Brittany to break with tradition :-).  After the rehearsal we all headed over to the Longwood Community Center, which is a beautiful old Victorian, to enjoy great food and celebrate!!

The reception was decorated and catered in a southwest theme.  It was a wonderful evening and Brittany and Stephen were just glowing with happiness!

This past week we were back in Florida for Brittany and Stephen's wedding.  My good friend Aubrey is one of the "Fab 4" Jarvis sisters and my goal is to photograph all of them on their wedding days.  Well, Ashley was first, then Aubrey and now Brittany (all since 2006) ... the only one left is Chelsea.

We had four days of shooting scheduled for this wedding, starting with Bee's bridal shoot.  We headed from Orlando up to historic St. Augustine, hitting the beaches as we went.  Accompanying us was Bee's close friend from Maryland, Nesha.  Nesha had never seen the ocean before so it was a lot of fun watching her explore it and dip her toes into the Atlantic for the first time.  She was also a great "Bird Rangler" assistant ... thanks Nesha :-).

The weather was rather foul but we didn't let that stop us from getting some absolutely stunning shots ... hard to go wrong though when you are working with one of the Jarvis sisters (they are all sickningly beautiful, thin and tall!)  In actuality, I enjoy working in stormy weather.  It adds an element to the images and a quality of light that just can't be achieved otherwise.  It was a great day full of fun and exploration!

We made an unscheduled stop to catch this storm sweeping in.  Turned out to be one of my favorites from the entire day!!

Amazing photos!!

(04.18.09 @ 05:41 PM)
We spent a week in Florida while there for Alicia and Michael's wedding.  Funny thing was it was colder when we got to Florida than it was when we left Flagstaff - go figure.  It warmed up quickly though, thank goodness.

I lived in Central Florida for ten years and sometimes I really miss it, so it is really nice when I get a chance to return ... which is also why I love booking weddings there (I have two more to go this year in FL) :-).  Plus, this is the first time I have been able to take Kevin there with me and it was nice to show him around the wilds of my old home.

The biggest thing I miss, besides old friends, is the wilderness and beaches of the state.  I used to do a lot of wildlife and nature photography in Florida and it was quite spiritual for me to go into the swamps or to the river or beach and spend time with the big birds and reptiles.  I especially love the big birds ... they are so comical.  We even saw a river otter chowing down on a fish on a river bank.  I have never seen one in the wild before so it was a real treat.  We also got some really cool shots from a controled burn down in Cape Canaveral.  It was really nice to return (and share it with Kevin) and these are some of the photos we got while there.  Enjoy!

Wow!

These shots are simply amazzing.

I love the reflections on the water shots.

Those are some of my favorite to look for recently.

The aligator eyes are really cool too.

As well as the aligator Gar fish.

These must have been from Florida.

Again, very professional work!

Absolutely beautiful. And what an artist the photographer is. Fabulous!!!!

(04.16.09 @ 09:52 PM)
The day after Alicia and Michael's wedding, I photographed the beautiful Aubrey for her Trash the Dress Session.  Aubrey is one of my dearest friends ... not to mention my favorite model :-).  As a matter of fact, that is how we met a decade ago.  She was in the hallway of my college (she went through the photography program as well) and I stopped and asked her if I could photograph her.  She said yes and the rest is history.  I have had the pleasure to photograph Aubrey many, many times over the years and last year I had the ultimate privilege of documenting her wedding.  Well, we have talked about a Trash the Dress Session ever since and decided this was a great opportunity to do it.

Aubrey does not particularly consider herself an outdoorsy type of gal like myself, but as usual she followed me deep into the recesses of the Florida wilderness to create these amazing images.  We traveled to Wekiwa Springs State Park in Orlando.  This is one of hundreds of fresh water springs that dot Florida ... the waters are crystal clear with beautiful shades of blue and emerald.  As idealistic as that may sound, it is still the Florida wilderness.  Aubrey braved alligators, no-see-ums (nasty little bugs that leave nasty little bites), very large wolf spiders that love to hide in the tulle of a wedding dress, and those sounds that emanate around you, unseen, praying on the imagination, and still she continued on for the sake of her photos ... amazing!!  I am so proud of you Aubs :-).

No doubt though, the photos are well worth it!  She even did the "wet hair flip" for me ... over and over and over again - just like she did in one of our very first shoots together.  Aubrey I adore these images ... thank you soooooo much for trusting me to not let you be attacked by spiders :-).  You hold a very special place in my heart and I will never tire of using you as one of my models.  Hope you and Phillip love them!!  Love you!!

Side note:  For anyone interested in these types of shoots, we highly suggest them.  They are great fun and you don't necessarily have to "Trash" your dress.  After everything Aubrey did (including riding in a canoe to get to some of the locations), she only ended up with a small grass stain at the bottom of her dress ... something easily fixed by a good dry clean.  Plus you get to feel like a model for a day ... what fun!!

We love destination weddings - it is so much fun to travel somewhere new and get to do wedding photography at the same time!  It is also so nice to have a couple that you meet for the very first time on the day of the wedding, yet feel like you have been longtime friends.  This is how it was when we met Alicia and Michael on March 7th.

Their wedding was held at the Mirror Lake Lyceum in Saint Petersburg, Florida and was such a ball.  The historic building (built in the 1920's) was very charming and the architecture was beautiful.  The ceremony was very close to sunset, but we still had a chance to sneak outside during the cocktail hour for a fun little photo shoot :-).

The reception was ... how shall I say ... insane!!  Everyone had a very, very, very good time - no matter the age, it was a good ol' time for all.  We love receptions like this one - never a dull moment :-).  At the end of the night, Alicia and Michael were picked up by a horse drawn carriage and taken on a beautiful midnight ride.  The horse's name was Duke and we loved his hooves - painted with green glitter for St. Patty's Day ... so cute!

Alicia and Michael, thank you so much for choosing us as your wedding photographers!  It was such a pleasure meeting you both and being a part of your wonderful day ... enjoy!!

I LOVE destination weddings! Good to see you got to go to Florida and spend some time out there.
