This was Purple Bill and Greeny's first trip to Europe and they were super excited! They posed in front of the Colosseum, sat on a cart full of traditional chianti flasks, got stuck in an old chicken coop in the Dolomite Mountains and played with the pigeons of Saint Mark's Square in Venice. It was a whirlwind trip for the duo :-)!

After leaving the Dolomite Mountains, we headed to our final destination before departing Italy - Venice! I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Venice! I just knew I would love all the colors, masks, pigeons :-), gondolas and waterways. It did not disappoint! We arrived at sunset on the first day and spent the rest of the night walking around the old city. All the small alleyways and canals added to the mystery and intrigue of the place. It was like stepping back into Victorian times ... simply breathtaking!

I LOVED all the pigeons ... how fun!

This is Kevin in St. Marks Square when he was a little boy. Not much has changed since that day in the 60's :-).

We saw so many brides that day ... I think we counted 5 total. Couldn't resist taking photos :-).

Yet another bride.

After leaving Tuscany, we continued north to the Dolomite Mountains. Their beauty was immense and staggering beyond words! We loved everything about this region. From our amazing hotel, to the shear grandeur of the peaks surrounding us, to the melodic sounds of cow bells ringing across open meadows, to the crisp autumn air, this was the kind of place that fills your soul with peace ... it was magical! On our last night, we took a chairlift to the top of the mountain and hiked back down into town at sunset. Along the way, we encountered a really sweet cow (I named her Bessy - original I know :-)) who joined us on our walk. She was so sweet she even licked me ... I have never been licked by a cow :-). We just loved this place!

After we left Rome, we drove north into Tuscany. We spent a couple of days exploring the Chianti region. Before we left, I had seen a photo in our guide book of a cart filled with old chianti flasks and decided I had to find it and photograph it myself. Kevin said there was no way I would find that cart and I have to admit that I wasn't too confident I would either. We didn't plan on exact places to stay on this part of the trip, instead opting to just find somewhere along the way. We found a really charming B&B in an old hamlet for our overnight stay and what do you think was sitting right in front of me ... that exact cart I had seen in the guide book!! I was so happy and proud of myself ... though I guess a little luck didn't hurt :-)!

I love Yoshi. And I haven't even met your new pup! But I love her too :)
